Poetry Out Loud

Poetry Out Loud 2021!

Since 2007, the Lake County Arts Council has hosted the Poetry Out Loud competition in Lake County.  Despite the pandemic, we look forward to continuing with our POL tradition in 2021…virtually! Over the years we have had many of the Lake County high schools participate, but it is our goal for 2021 to have all local high schools represented.

POL runs through early winter. (Poetry Out Loud does not require full class periods and can be completed in 2-3 weeks.) The Lake County countywide competition shall be held in January 2021 and for the first time, will be held virtually.  States hold their competitions by mid-March. Following the state finals, the National Finals will be held virtually in Spring 2021.

This year’s Poetry Out Loud Coordinator is Lake County Poet Laureate and LCAC Literary Coordinator, Georgina Marie. Contact her with any questions at gmarie@lakearts.org.

New POL Mobile App!

With this app, students can easily find, save, and practice poems for the competition on their phones or tablets. Many thanks to the Poetry Foundation for developing this.
