Richard Seisser

I have been painting with Pastels for 10 years. Before that I dabbled in oils, acrylics and pen and ink sketching. Pastels are my love of the four. I have exhibited in numerous shows in Grass Valley, Lakeport, and Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah. I have been a Pastel instructor at the Main Street Gallery in Lakeport for four years and currently have 10 full time students. We meet every week on Tuesday from 1 to 4 PM. In 2009 and 2010 I was Artist in Residence at the Mclaughlin Nature reserve just off Morgan Valley Road, Lower Lake. This was through UC Davis Cultural Exchange. The paintings in this catalogue are just a few of the vast collection create over the past 5 years.

I have to credit my seventh grade teacher, in 1957, with giving me permission to dabble in the arts. After my studies at the California College of Arts and Crafts I began a career in 1970 that would find me designing Parks, Playgrounds and Theatre Sets. Adult and children’s art and photography classes gave me a venue to exercise my inner teacher. From early 1980 till the turn of the century I served as Manager of large graphic teams for Environmental Engineering firms. I have always felt that artists and their work can take many forms. For me, productivity has never be a big issue… being an artist, I feel, must become a way of life that very much is involved in finding a new way of seeing.
