From the Desk of our Executive Director

Your Arts Council is facing a time of transition with key positions requiring new personnel. Betty Lou resigned as our Treasurer, but Carmon Brittain is doing admirably in adjusting to the position. Damon Trimble, who designed and maintained our website, needs a respite, as does Barbara Lee, our publisher/editor for Art Notes, our quarterly news letter. As Executive Director, I notified the Board at the April meeting that I also intend to step back at the end of our fiscal year, June 30. It is important that the Board put plans into motion for these key positions. I am confident that we will find strong leadership to direct the organization to the goals established, in the past 12 years, by all of you in LCAC.

LCAC’s primary direction since 2004 has been to connect our community with the Arts by active participation in the chambers, fraternal organizations, Lakeport Main Street Association and partnering with our school districts and other organizations so vital to our culture and economic vitality.

We have also strived to encourage additional classes for beginning and professional artists in all mediums. We have seen those classes grow from the monthly Writer’s Workshop to a bi-monthly Poets and Author’s Series, plus classes in Pastels, Watercolor and Life Drawing.

The very successful Summer Youth Art Camp has prompted an Art in the Afternoon encouraging both youth and adults to create their special piece of art.

The Soper Reese continues strong under the leadership of Mike Adams and his formidable crew of supporters and is strong on the way into the next phase of constructing the two ADA bathrooms for everyone’s comfort. The Theatre is our strongest asset and our face to the community. LCAC is fortunate to have such a professional crew managing our Theatre.

The State Local Partnership Grant is out, and I have asked Annie Barnes, a former board member and grant writer, and with board approval, to take on the task. I will assist her with necessary documentation. Our CPC will also be assisting in part of that documentation.

Each of you makes up the core of what LCAC is as an organization and shows the community that the Arts do make a difference in the lives of all of us. Arts have an important impact on the many facets that make up our world. Thank you for being one of those facets.

In gratitude to all,

Shelby
