Spring and support of the arts is busting out all over Lake County and around the country and, importantly, at a record-breaking 30th annual Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. Over 700 advocates (new record), including 88 National Partners came together to speak out for the arts on March 20-21.
Arts Advocacy Day attendees had over 400 face-to-face meetings with Congressional leaders and staff on Capitol Hill. A key item was to ask Members of Congress to sign the annual letter in support of federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. To date, a record number of 154 signatures have been garnered and is the most bipartisan support ever for this important letter.
A similar letter was signed in the U.S. Senate by 40 Senators in support of the NEA. More than 150,000 messages have been sent by arts advocates like you and your Lake County Arts Council, who participate from our own communities. Together our voices do make a difference.
On April 6, seven Members of Congress spoke out through a rare “Special Order” series of speeches in support of the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. With this kind of momentum, I look to very favorable outcomes when Congress reconvenes in late April.
Meanwhile, each of us can continue to promote the Arts and Culture in Lake County. Whether your passion is the visual arts, writing, theater, dance, music, photography or the culinary arts, YOU can make a difference by participating and adding your enthusiasm to the mix.
In gratitude to all,
